Fast solar hot water system service. Local help 24/7.
We recently assisted a homeowner in Lindfield who had suddenly begun experiencing a shortage of hot water. Their rooftop solar hot water system had been dependable for more than a decade, and they explained they had never once run out of hot water, even when family was staying. We arranged a midday appointment so they could quickly return home from work and let us in.
When we inspected the system, the issue became clear. The rooftop solar tank had developed a leak due to internal corrosion. Water was escaping from the tank and travelling across the roof into the gutters. Because the system was continually losing water, it couldn’t reach full capacity or maintain heat. This caused a much faster depletion of hot water than usual, even though the solar collectors were still functioning.

Replacing the customer’s existing solar hot water system
It was evident that the old system had reached the end of its life. The tank showed significant corrosion and the performance had noticeably declined.
We only recommend replacing a system if it is genuinely the safest and most economical choice. Once a rooftop tank begins corroding internally, it cannot be restored. The weakened steel leads to ongoing leaks, the insulation becomes less effective, and the risk of sudden tank failure increases. Temporary repairs may slow the problem but cannot stop the internal deterioration. At this stage, a complete replacement is the most practical long-term solution.
After discussing suitable options, the homeowner chose a Rheem Hiline Solar Hot Water System with a 300-litre stainless steel tank (Model 52L300).
With our specialised equipment and extensive experience, we removed the old unit and installed the new one in the same rooftop position next to the homeowner’s existing solar PV panels. The new system provides efficient, dependable solar hot water and works seamlessly with their renewable energy setup.
Connecting solar hot water to rooftop solar panels for even greater savings
Solar water heating is one of the most effective ways to reduce household energy costs while maintaining a reliable hot water supply. Modern systems offer strong solar absorption, improved insulation, and greater overall efficiency. With comprehensive manufacturer warranties and long system lifespans, a quality solar hot water system delivers ongoing savings and peace of mind.
When paired with rooftop solar PV panels, the electric booster can operate using solar-generated electricity. This significantly reduces running costs, improves energy efficiency, lowers environmental impact, and increases the homeowner’s return on their solar investment. With the new Rheem Hiline system now installed, this Lindfield property can enjoy reliable year-round hot water, improved performance, and reduced energy expenses.
Using rooftop solar PV to power the booster adds to the savings. The electric booster only activates when there is insufficient sunlight, such as during extended cloudy periods or in winter. When powered by the household’s own solar panels instead of grid electricity, running costs drop even further. Gas booster options are also available for those who prefer them.

Rheem Solar Hot Water Systems
The Rheem Hiline 52L Series operates through a thermo-siphon method, where water is heated directly within the solar collectors and naturally rises back into the rooftop storage tank. The 300-litre model (52L300) suits homes with two to five occupants and is available in four Colorbond® colours, with a durable stainless steel tank.
Features
This system offers a choice of four Colorbond® colours and includes a stainless steel tank. It is available with either gas or electric boosting for periods of low sunlight. The 300-litre capacity is designed for medium-sized households, and homeowners can choose from NPT200, L, or CSA2007 collectors based on their performance needs.
Specifications
The Rheem 52L300 is a rooftop solar hot water system with a 300-litre capacity, suited to homes with two to five people.
Warranty Information
Warranty coverage varies depending on the collectors installed. Systems using NPT200 collectors come with seven years of cylinder and collector supply, three years of labour on both components, and one year of coverage for parts and labour.
