Compact water heater replacement for a customer in Ermington.
We were recently called out to help a customer in Ermington whose 14-year-old electric storage hot water system had begun leaking. She was concerned about potential water damage and losing reliable hot water, particularly as she lived in a unit and didn’t want to risk flooding her unit and the one below.

Before arriving onsite, we guided the customer over the phone on how to safely shut off the water supply to the leaking hot water system. This simple step helped stop the leak from worsening and prevented potential water damage inside the unit and surrounding hallway. We also advised her how to switch off the electricity supply to the hot water system to ensure the area was safe until our technician arrived.
By taking these precautions, the customer was able to contain the problem and avoid unnecessary mess or damage while waiting for us to attend.
Repairing the water heater
When we arrived onsite, we realised the situation would be challenging because the water tank was installed inside a very tight cupboard in the hallway of her unit, leaving almost no space to move.
To safely remove the leaking water heater, we carefully removed part of the door jamb and the cupboard door to create enough clearance. Once there was enough room, we were able to extract the old leaking heater and prepare the space for the new installation.
Rinnai 250 litre slim and compact electric hot water system
With the space cleared, we supplied and installed a Rinnai 250-litre slim and compact electric hot water system. Its clever, space-saving design made it the perfect fit for the narrow cupboard while still offering plenty of capacity for the customer’s daily hot water needs.
After installation, we reinstated the door jamb and cupboard door, leaving everything neat, secure and fully functional. The customer was thrilled to have hot water restored and was relieved that the new system looked tidy and modern.
She’ll also likely notice lower running costs, as modern hot water systems are far more energy-efficient thanks to advances in insulation, heating elements and thermostat control over the past 14 years.
